Remove power from your machine
Reason: As you will be working within the spindle belt area, you will want to hit E-stop, or power down completely to do this replacement.
Remove your automatic collet closer, if installed
Reason: The collet closer needs to be removed to be able to remove the belt cover panel.
For removal instructions, refer back to the installation video.
Remove the belt guard
Unscrew the encoder cable and leave that off to the side.
Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws holding on the crescent moon plate by the spindle encoder and then the screws holding the belt guard cover. Then pull the belt guard cover and set to the side.
Use a 2 mm hex wrench to loosen the two set screws on the encoder side of the coupler.
Use a 3 mm hex wrench to remove the four cap head screws that hold the encoder to the casting and pull the encoder off.
Install the new encoder
Grab the replacement encoder and slide the drive shaft into the coupler, aligning the flat on the shaft with one of the set screws.
Reinstall the cap head screws until they are barely snug so the encoder can float to an aligned position as the coupler is tightened.
Tighten the two set screws on the coupler and then tighten the four cap head screws.
Reinstall the belt guard cover and crescent moon plate and reconnect the encoder cable.
