1300PL Ohmic Touch vs. Micro Switch Touch Off
1300PL Ohmic Touch vs. Micro Switch Touch Off
Background
The Tormach 1300PL Plasma Table comes standard with two types of touch off systems. To get better cutting results, and to extend the life of your plasma consumables, it's good to know the differences between the two. This Tormach Quick Tips is intended to help.
Micro Switch Touch Off The Z-axis of the torch includes a micro switch that engages when then the torch tip touches off onto the workpiece, therefore knowing the correct height to cut. This results in a more effective pierce of the material.
Ohmic Touch Ohmic touch relies on the conductivity between the grounded workpiece and the tip of the torch. This works best for thinner metals, or metals with varying height, but can be finicky because of water contact.
